Home made cake release recipe

I am all for anything that makes my time in the kitchen easier and more efficient.  Years ago, my friend Jo from Ciccio cakes published her cake release tip on Facebook and I haven't looked back since!

Easy home made pan release recipe

  • 1/2 cup of softened shortening
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup oil

  1. Mix all three ingredients together in a bowl until smooth and creamy. I use the whisk attachment on my mixer so it fluffs up in volume.
  2. Generously brush your pan release before pouring your batter, and bake as usual. I remove my baked cakes by flipping the tin over on a rack after 10-15 minutes of resting.
  3. Save your pan release into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator. Because the ingredients themselves have a long shelf life, it won't spoil if sealed properly and will last up to a year, but keep an eye on the colour and smell.

This recipe can happily be halved, or doubled - depending on how much baking you do!  Enjoy.
